In the early American military, specifically the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, food, logistics, medicine and morale were inseparable. Chocolate and cocoa fit that world neatly. They were calorie-dense, easy to transport and more shelf-stable than most comforts soldiers could count on.By the middle years of the Revolutionary War,…

The Catholic archbishop responsible for U.S. military personnel said it is “morally acceptable” for service members to disobey an order if it is against their own conscience, as the Trump administration weighs possible troop deployments to Minneapolis, and the use of force to seize Greenland. Timothy Broglio — who has served as the archbishop for the military services since 2007 — admitted in a BBC interview on Sunday that he was worried about the troops in his pastoral care “because they could be put in a situation where they’re being ordered to do something which is morally questionable.”“It would be…

His 56-inch fish replaced a 53-incher and raised the bar in the state’s live release category, which was established in 2017. Speaking with Outdoor Life weeks later, Van Remortel said he and his clients had caught even longer muskies out of Green Bay, and that he expected his own record to fall soon enough.  It turns out he was right.…

This article was originally published by Frank Shostak at Natural News.  What is probability? The probability of an event is the proportion of times the event occurs out of a large number of trials. For instance, the probability of obtaining heads when a coin is tossed is 0.5. This does not mean that when a coin is tossed 10 times, five heads are always obtained. However, if the experiment is repeated a large number of times, then it is likely that 50 percent will be obtained. The greater the number of throws, the nearer the approximation is likely to be.…

Congress is backing increases to the size of the U.S. armed forces this year, having passed and proposed final legislation that will raise and fund rises in end strength by more than 30,000 troops. The fiscal 2026 National Defense Authorization Act, signed into law Dec. 18, allowed the defense and homeland security departments to increase the size of their services. The departments’ respective appropriations bills, released Tuesday, contain the funding needed to support the increases. Under the legislation, the Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force and Coast Guard will grow, with the Army and Navy seeing the largest increases. According…

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! The Supreme Court’s conservative majority raised tough questions Tuesday over a state law that requires a property owner’s explicit permission before lawful gun owners can bring their firearms into private businesses generally open to the public, like shopping malls. In spirited courtroom oral arguments, the question came down to whether property rights trumped gun rights, and how those rights interact. At issue is a challenge to a Hawaii statute — similar to four other states — that requires those with a concealed-carry license get express approval — verbally or through an openly displayed sign…

The 1.5 million troops who received an unexpected $1,776 so-called “warrior dividend” payment in December won’t have to pay taxes on that money, the Internal Revenue Service has confirmed. In a Dec. 17 speech, President Donald Trump announced the payments, which he described as a “warrior dividend,“ would be made to 1.5 million troops, and said they were funded by revenue from tariffs and $2.9 billion in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act enacted last July. The Associated Press later reported that the payments weren’t being funded by tariffs. Active-duty service members in pay grades O-6 and below, and eligible Reserve…

The House and Senate’s conferenced version of a fiscal 2026 defense budget would restore funding for the Navy’s next-generation F/A-XX fighter and up the Pentagon’s spending request on the Air Force’s F-47.In materials released Monday, the House Appropriations Committee said the compromise $839 billion spending bill would provide $3.9 billion for the military’s sixth-generation aircraft. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers removed the commander of its Little Rock District last week, citing a loss of confidence in his leadership, according to a statement. The decision, announced Jan. 15, was framed by senior leaders as part of a broader effort to hold district commanders accountable for cutting bureaucracy and accelerating civil works projects across the country. The announcement did not identify the commander by name but said that Lt. Col. Jesse Carter, the district’s deputy commander, will assume the role on an interim basis until a permanent replacement is found. Task and Purpose identified the commander…

For decades, anglers have flocked to the state’s Atlantic beaches during the winter months to launch bottom rigs tipped with sand fleas in hopes of catching a mess of these schooling fish. The only downside is that the 10-plus-foot rods needed to deliver those baits from the sand don’t let the pompano’s power shine. They’re cousins of the mighty permit, and while they don’t get nearly as big, they’ll peel drag from a light-tackle reel. To effectively get after…

United States Senator Rand Paul said that the U.S. is in an ongoing war with Venezuela. “That is an act of war. It’s an ongoing war, to continue to take their oil; ongoing war to distribute it,” Paul said during a Sunday appearance on NBC News’s “Meet the Press.” Most of the public has figured out that this war was never about “narco terrorism” as the U.S. ruling class has claimed. It’s always been about controlling Venezuela’s natural resources. It’s All About The Oil: Trump Wants “Oil Rights” In Venezuela “This Oil will be sold at its Market Price, and that…

The Defense Health Agency has clarified the U.S. military’s policy regarding chaperones during medical exams following several prominent cases of Army doctors taking indecent liberties with patients behind closed doors. In a memo sent last month to military health system leadership, including military hospitals and dental facilities and support offices, acting DHA Director David Smith said patients have always had a right to a chaperone, but physicians now must offer them for sensitive medical exams or procedures. Signage will inform patients that they have a right to a chaperone regardless of treatment, according to the memo, but in gynecological, breast…

I took my first grizzly in the Devils Lake country of the Yukon in…

After the U.S. Marine raid on Makin Island on Aug. 17-18, 1942, Japanese garrisons in the Gilbert and Marshall islands got to serious work reinforcing their commands. These took different natures, with differing effectiveness. In the case of Tarawa Atoll in the Gilberts, the defenses focused on some 500 positions, combining solid concrete, resilient coconut logs and the sand that made up the island. Central to the defenses was a mammoth bunker capable of accommodating 150 troops and an airfield in the middle of Betio, the largest island in the Tarawa group. When he arrived on July 20, 1943, to…

This article was originally published by John W. Whitehead and Nisha Whitehead at The Rutherford Institute.  NYT: “Do you see any checks on your power on the world stage? Is there anything that could stop you if you wanted to?” President Trump: “Yeah, there is one thing. My own morality. My own mind. It’s the only thing that can stop me, and that’s very good.” In January 1776, Thomas Paine published Common Sense, a pamphlet that gave voice to the discontent of a nation struggling to free itself from a tyrannical ruler who believed power flowed from his own will rather than the…
