New options are coming to troops’ rations, and some less popular items will disappear from the menu. The next iteration of Meals Ready-to-Eat is MRE 46, set to release in 2026. Among the options — all of which are required to have shelf lives of six months in 100 degrees Fahrenheit and three years at 80 degrees Fahrenheit — troops will no longer see beef taco filling, a pork sausage patty and jalapeno pepper jack beef patty. Instead, those items will be replaced with buffalo chicken, Cuban-style beef picadillo with vegetables and a Thai-style red curry with chicken and rice.“Buffalo chicken…
Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force David Flosi announced his impending retirement in an October 13 email to the force, referring to the sudden death of his wife, Katy, last month. The Air Force confirmed to Military Times that Flosi plans to retire and that the email is authentic. “My family and I have decided to change the capacity in which I will serve our Airmen and this Nation we love,” Flosi wrote in the email, which has been shared on social media. “After nearly 30 years in uniform, I am retiring from active-duty service, to ensure I take…
President Donald Trump is redoubling his efforts to end the war in Ukraine, announcing a second meeting with Russia’s Vladimir Putin one day before sitting down with Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House.Trump’s announcement came shortly after finishing a call with Putin on Thursday. A date has not been set, but Trump said the meeting would take place in Budapest, Hungary.“I believe great progress was made with today’s telephone conversation,” Trump wrote on social media. The two leaders previously met in Alaska in August, which did not produce a diplomatic breakthrough, a source of frustration for the U.S. leader…
The federal government shutdown has affected troops and families in various ways around the world. Military Times wants to know: As a service member and/or military spouse, how has the shutdown impacted you and your family? For example, has it delayed your permanent change of station move? Did you receive your full paycheck on Oct. 15? Is your spouse a federal employee and working without pay? Has it affected child care or other services on base? What about your military health care or other federal benefits? If you’d like to share your thoughts, email [email protected]. Include your service branch, rank,…
Leaders at the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) are proud of their partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), and rightly so. As the firearm industry trade association, NSSF has an obligation to help save lives and is proud to fulfill this duty. So, it is understandable that a recent hit piece published at thetrace.com, the Michael Bloomberg-funded propaganda arm of so-called Everytown for Gun Safety, raised the ire of those at the NSSF. In a report headlined “Everytown’s Propaganda Arm Puts Gun Control Over Saving Lives,” NSSF President and CEO Joe Bartozzi laid into The Trace and…
Editor’s note: This is a developing story. The U.S. Navy commander who supervised military strikes in the Caribbean Sea is leaving his post, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced on social media late Thursday. In a surprising development, Adm. Alvin Holsey will step down as head of U.S. Southern Command, a position he’d held for less than a year.“On behalf of the Department of War, we extend our deepest gratitude to Admiral Alvin Holsey for his more than 37 years of distinguished service to our nation as he plans to retire at year’s end,” Hegseth wrote in a post on X, referring to…

We’d already pushed through a big, grassy swale that looked birdy enough, but only produced a lone rooster. After huddling over an onX map, our small orange army decided to head for the shelter belt on the far north edge of the field. With two hunters set as blockers, the dogs worked the trees while the rest of us walked the edges. Midway through three roosters flushed wild, rocketing up and out of shotgun range to the other side of the…
A board of U.S. Air Force Academy graduates is to vote Friday on whether to award honorary membership in the academy’s alumni association to Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist killed last month while hosting a debate at a Utah college. The vote will be held by the board of directors of the Association of Graduates, which serves as the academy’s nonprofit alumni group. In addition to voting on the honorary membership, the board is expected to consider Kirk for an honorary Air Force Academy degree. Although an honorary degree vote is on the agenda, the Association of Graduates does not have…

They may be invisible to rookie hunters, but with a little bit of practice, spotting them becomes routine. Whitetails don’t have to work nearly so hard. That’s due, in part, to their superior noses and their tendency to leave a whole lot of scent. But it’s also because fresh rubs and scrapes, researchers say, actually appear to glow for deer. Researchers at the University of Georgia Deer Lab, well known…
