RFK Jr. Says Measles Outbreak Was A “Success”

RFK Jr. Says Measles Outbreak Was A “Success”

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said that the Trump administration’s response to the measles outbreak that began in West Texas is a testament to what a “focused CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) can achieve.”   Kennedy was referring to the changes he made during his overhaul of the agency during his tenure as the Health and Human Services Secretary.

“The outbreak ended quickly, proving the CDC can act swiftly with precision when guided by science and freed from ideology,” Kennedy wrote, adding that the response was “effective” because it wasn’t “distracted” by politically correct language or “equity outcomes.”

Texas Measles Outbreak Grows To 327

According to a report by The Hill, local officials declared the outbreak officially over on August 18. The outbreak hospitalized nearly 100 people in West Texas and killed two children. Infections linked to Texas spread across the Southwest to New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and Mexico’s Chihuahua state.

Texas Declares An End To The Measles Outbreak

Most of the mainstream media and health officials blamed the unvaccinated for spreading the virus.

“We had two kids die, we had almost 100 hospitalizations, and who knows how many other kids were sick or ill,” Philip Huang, director of the Dallas County Health Department, said. “I’ve worked with CDC for a long time … the accessibility and availability of CDC now is nothing like it has been in the past, or should be, and to claim that now this is the model for CDC is really — it’s just not true.”

Huang added that the outbreak didn’t end because more people were convinced to vaccinate. It ended because the virus “burned through” the vulnerable populations, or those who chose not to vaccinate.

This news comes on the heels of nine former CDC leaders, who joined together in a separate opinion article, and called Kennedy a danger to public health, just days after he ousted the CDC’s new director, Susan Monarez.

What are your thoughts on the measles outbreak? Was it the fault of the unvaccinated? Or do some illnesses need to spread through the population to enhance immunity?
