THE FIRST TIME I saw an iguana I felt both revulsion and fear. The thing crossed the highway between Taxco and Cuernavaca, Mexico, while I was driving with Bill Gulick. It was about three feet long, and it looked for all the world like a small dragon or prehistoric brontosaurus. But what amazed me was its terrific speed. I’d always thought that cold blooded…

From there he attended the Arkansas Polytechnical College and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, graduating from the latter with a juris doctor degree in 1939. During…

by Lee Williams  The millions of law-abiding Americans who have chosen to carry a concealed firearm are putting “everyone involved at risk,” the ATF announced this week in a tweet on X.  “Take a look into our world. This is a scenario @ATFWasington frequently faces when combatting violent crime and maintaining public safety. Many people attempt to conceal firearms on their person or belongings which puts everyone involved at risk. #MakeDCSafeAgain #ATF,” the ATF tweeted on X.  As you can imagine, ATF’s message received hundreds of overwhelmingly negative responses including many that are not fit to reprint.  “Concealed carry is…

A group of former employees is suing the Nevada Department of Veterans Services (NDVS), alleging that the agency and multiple officials engaged in retaliatory behavior and endangered the safety of residents at a state-run veterans nursing home in Southern Nevada. The lawsuit filed earlier this year in Clark County, alleges that leaders at NDVS and at the nursing home engaged in “sham” investigations against workers that eventually led to their unlawful termination. The lawsuit also alleges that those leaders asked the employees to commit illegal activity on anything from timekeeping to the handling of controlled substances, and failed to hold officials…

An Alaskan guide is being sued by the state for allegedly ripping off more than 30 moose hunters — and pocketing well over half a million dollars — over the course of two hunting seasons.  In the lawsuit, Alaska attorney general Treg Taylor claims that in 2023 and 2024, Clint Miller took more than $660,000 from 32 hunters, who’d booked once-in-a-lifetime moose hunts through his business, Alaska Wilderness Outfitter. But Taylor alleges that only two of those hunters ever set foot on…

On Aug. 17, 1942, a party of 211 United States Marines landed on the Japanese-occupied Makin Atoll in the Gilbert Islands. Col. Evans Carlson, arrived aboard the submarines Argonaut (SM-1) and Nautilus (SS-168) and slipped ashore aboard LCRLs (landing craft, rubber, large). The men were exceptionally well trained,…

If you’ve followed our previous coverage of Silencer Shop’s lawsuit against the ATF and DOJ, then you already know the battle over silencers and SBRs is far from over.  But behind the headlines is the Silencer Shop Foundation—a nonprofit quietly (and now not so quietly) working to dismantle the laws that restrict your right to own common firearm accessories. What Is the Silencer Shop Foundation? But while Silencer Shop…

President Donald Trump has threatened to deploy the National Guard to Chicago, New York, Seattle, Baltimore, San Francisco and Portland, Oregon, to fight what he says is runaway crime. Yet data shows most violent crime in those places and around the country has declined in recent years.Homicides through the first six months of 2025 were down significantly compared to the same period in 2024, continuing a post-pandemic trend across the U.S.Trump, who has already taken federal control of police in Washington, D.C., has maligned the six Democratic-run cities that all are in states that opposed him in 2024. But he…

Twenty years ago, Guy Riordan was sitting at his farm in New Mexico watching news broadcasts of the crisis unfolding in New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina had made landfall on August 29, 2005, and the resulting flooding and destruction would go on to claim more than 1,300 lives and cause more than $108 billion in damages (in 2005 dollars). Even with first responders and government agencies pitching in, it was clear to Riordan that civilians were needed, too. “I just got motivated,”…

For the first time in history, an American has been infected with the flesh-eating parasite dubbed the “screwworm.” The patient, who resides in Maryland, contracted the parasite while travelling. “The Maryland resident has recovered from the infection, and the investigation confirmed there is no indication of transmission to any other individuals or animals. Currently, the risk to public and animal health in Maryland from this introduction is very low,” the Maryland Department of Health said in a statement to PEOPLE, adding that the resident “had returned from a country currently experiencing a NWS outbreak.” NWS is short for New World…

The United States is boosting its maritime force in the waters off Venezuela to combat threats from Latin American drug cartels with the expected arrival of more vessels next week, an action that will undoubtedly fuel more speculation in Venezuela. The U.S. government has not signaled any planned land incursion from the thousands of personnel being deployed, and analysts and current and former government officials see no possibility of an invasion in Venezuela.Still, the deployment has dominated conversations in the streets and at dinner tables in Venezuela, where an alleged threat of invasion is spilling over from social media and state…

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! Two children were killed and 17 others were injured when a shooter opened fire during a morning Mass for a Minneapolis Catholic school, with the nation subsequently reeling from the tragedy and reigniting debate about ways to prevent such horror in the future.”This kind of violence is very recent. The U.S. government is offering military funeral honors for Ashli Babbitt, the rioter who was killed at 35 by an officer in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.Babbitt was a U.S. Air Force veteran from California who was shot dead while wearing a Trump campaign flag wrapped around her shoulders and attempting to climb through the broken window of a barricaded door leading to the Speaker’s Lobby inside the Capitol.Offering military honors to one of the Capitol rioters is part of President Donald Trump’s attempts to rewrite that chapter after the 2020 election as a patriotic stand, given…

Sign up for the On The Gun Newsletter The latest for gun hunters and competitive shooters. Shotgun prices, along with the price of pretty much everything else, have continued to creep up these last few years. The reality is that a quality, mid-priced semi-auto shotgun now costs about a thousand dollars. Old-time wingshooters might scoff at that statement, but a simple inflation calculation can tell you that $500 in the year 2000 is the equivalent of about $1,000 today.  I’ve shot and hunted with all variety of semi-auto shotguns and in my experience you don’t want to spend less than…

In the aftermath of a trans murderer killing two children and wounding 17 others in an attack at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis on August 27, gun-ban groups were quick to blame private gun ownership, some even releasing statements before police had held the first press conference. While that’s nothing new—gun-ban groups and the so-called “mainstream” media always blame the gun, and gun owners, for every horrific crime—it didn’t sit well with the pro-freedom folks at the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA). Before the day’s end, CCRKBA had released its own statement expressing disgust…

It’s been more than a decade since Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel issued a 2014 memo calling for “liberal consideration” of discharge upgrade requests from veterans with symptoms of post-traumatic stress. But today, vets with discharges below honorable are still remaining in limbo for months or years, without access to full benefits of service and facing potential barriers to employment. That’s according to a Government Accountability Office report published in July. The watchdog report, which evaluated nearly 22,000 cases eligible for liberal consideration that were closed between January 2018 and March 2024, found wild variance between the services in percentage of…
