Randy “Duke” Cunningham, whose feats as a U.S. Navy flying ace during the Vietnam War catapulted him to a U.S House of Representatives career that ended in disgrace when he was convicted of accepting $2.4 million in bribes, has died. He was 83.Cunningham died Wednesday at a hospital in a Little Rock, Arkansas, according to former Rep. Duncan L. Hunter, who spent time with him a week before his passing. He “represented the very best of American heroes who go out to meet our enemies at the gates,” said Hunter, whose served alongside Cunningham in Congress.Cunningham was one of the most…

Tom Kelly is best known for his classic 1973 book on turkey hunting, “The Tenth Legion.” He was also a diehard dove hunter. He bought the gun for the child a month before her 10th birthday and brought it home to a concerted gasp of outrage and indignation from every female relative on either side of the family. He bought it and delivered it early…

This article was originally published by Michael Snyder at The Economic Collapse Blog.  Is the fact that large companies are filing for bankruptcy at the fastest pace in 15 years a good sign for the economy or a bad sign for the economy? I don’t even have to answer that question because all of you already know the answer. And as you will see below, other types of bankruptcies are soaring as well. We are a nation that is absolutely drowning in debt, and now bubbles are bursting all around us. I hope that you have positioned yourself for what…

The Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to weigh in on Cook County, Illinois’ long-standing ban on commonly owned semiautomatic rifles like the AR-15. The case, Viramontes v. Cook County, could become the defining test of whether America’s most popular rifle falls under the full protection of the Second Amendment. “This case is the ideal vehicle for the Supreme Court to say—once and for all—that semiautomatic rifles like the AR-15 are protected by the Constitution,” said FPC President Brandon Combs. “The stakes could not be higher: If the Second Amendment doesn’t cover the most popular rifles…

This story, “Sun, Sand, and Thirst,” first appeared in the February 1947 issue of Outdoor Life. THE EXPERIENCE on which I base my conclusions stems from a deer hunt shortly after my arrival in southern California in 1930. My hunting having been confined to the well-watered states of Iowa and Minnesota, thirst, as a factor to be taken into consideration, never entered my mind. I walked into the situation blind mentally, and came out of it blind physically — though luckily…

The Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC) has reinstated the SIG SAUER M18 sidearm for duty use after a command-wide inspection of nearly 8,000 pistols. The pause began in July following the tragic death of an airman at F.E. Warren AFB. Another airman was later charged with manslaughter in that case. While a mechanical defect didn’t cause the incident, the Air Force temporarily suspended the M18 to conduct a full inspection out of “an abundance of caution.” 191 Pistols Flagged for Issues AFGSC reviewed all 7,970 M18s in its inventory. Inspectors found 191 pistols with what they described as “discrepancies,”…

The U.S. Forest Service today posted notice of its intention to roll back significant protections on some 45 million acres of mid-elevation forestland, and will accept public comments through Sept. 19 to gauge Americans’ appetite for the change. Specifically, the Trump administration plans to rescind the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule, proposed by the Clinton administration and enacted under the George Bush administration, that generally prohibits new road construction on millions of acres of U.S. Forest Service land. The rule was…

This article was originally published by Ramon Tomey at Natural News.  The U.S. debt-to-GDP ratio exceeds 120 percent, fueled by reckless fiscal policies from both political parties. Inflation acts as a hidden tax, redistributing wealth from the middle and working classes to elites who access new money first. Central banks print money out of thin air – benefiting banks, corporations, and politically connected elites. By the time new money reaches ordinary citizens, its value is diluted, driving up prices for essentials like food and housing. According to Ron Paul, governments and citizens demand more stimulus like a drug addict seeking…

Since its inauguration in 1862, the Medal of Honor has gone through an evolutionary standard. Until World War I, many of the deeds that led to their award were not described in convincing detail. Sometimes it took a witness of the act of heroism to supply those details. An early case in point occurred during the Boxer Rebellion. On Oct. 18, 1899, a Chinese nationalist movement called the Society of Righteous and Harmonious Fists, or Boxers by foreign observers, rose up against the seven concession cities representing the Western imperialist powers on Chinese soil, also turning their wrath on merchants, missionaries,…

THE FIRST TIME I saw an iguana I felt both revulsion and fear. The thing crossed the highway between Taxco and Cuernavaca, Mexico, while I was driving with Bill Gulick. It was about three feet long, and it looked for all the world like a small dragon or prehistoric brontosaurus. But what amazed me was its terrific speed. I’d always thought that cold blooded…

World War II produced numerous airmen awarded the Medal of Honor, the vast majority of whom flew in bombers or fighters. There were, of rare exceptions, of course, and among the rarest was Nathan Green Gordon, the only Medal of Honor recipient to earn it in a Consolidated PBY-5 Catalina flying boat.Born on Sept. 4, 1916 in Morrilton, Arkansas, Gordon graduated from the Columbia Military Academy, Tennessee as the class salutatorian in 1933. From there he attended the Arkansas Polytechnical College and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, graduating from the latter with a juris doctor degree in 1939. During…
