A VA spokesperson confirmed to Military Times the restrictions took effect immediately. “The Department of Justice’s opinion states that VA is not legally authorized to provide abortions, and VA is complying with it immediately,” VA press secretary Pete Kasperowicz said in a statement. “The DOJ’s opinion is consistent with VA’s proposed rule, which continues to work…

KYIV, Ukraine — A maximum of 800,000. That’s how many soldiers Ukraine’s military would be authorized to have under the current 20-point peace framework — a 20% cut from the roughly one million currently under arms, but a significant increase over the 600,000 originally proposed. That higher number was a concession Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy won after weeks of pushing back. But it’s still a ceiling on a force built over almost four years of war with Western weapons, Western training and Western intelligence.Russia faces no equivalent limit.Almost four years ago, Moscow expected Kyiv to fall in three days. Instead,…

I stood at the edge of a snow-choked evergreen swamp, slowly congealing and thinking moodily how much white-rabbit hunting has in common with ice fishing, another glacial activity in which I find myself involved each winter. In one of these undertakings, I reflected, you stand around freezing on the ice waiting for a red flag to pop up; in the other you stand around freezing in the snow…

This story, “Big Bucks of the Secret Canyon,” appeared in the December 1962 issue of Outdoor Life. Never belittle the beneficial effects of square dancing. My brother Harold met a cattle rancher at a square dance in north-central Washington and got the guy’s permission to hunt in a canyon at the back of his place. This was a notable achievement, as the rancher didn’t hunt, didn’t like hunters, and had a locked gate across the cowpath road that led into the…

China is conducting “large-scale” military drills near the island nation of Taiwan. These drills are coming just days after China sanctioned some United States defense firms over its delivery of weapons to Taiwan. China sees Taiwan’s push to ramp up its defence this year as an act of defiance. It has enraged Beijing, which claims the self-ruled island as its own territory. “Any sinister schemes to obstruct China’s reunification are doomed to fail,” the ministry’s spokesman Lin Jian said at a regular press briefing on Monday. In a post on Weibo, as reported by the BBC, the Chinese military’s Eastern…

Silver’s rally is fueled by real demand (not speculation) and supply disruptions, while platinum benefits from hydrogen fuel cell demand and easing European Union (EU) engine restrictions. Physical metal premiums (e.g.,…
