In the early American military, specifically the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, food, logistics, medicine and morale were inseparable. Chocolate and cocoa fit that world neatly. They were calorie-dense, easy to transport and more shelf-stable than most comforts soldiers could count on.By the middle years of the Revolutionary War,…

The Army is restructuring an advisory force born of the global war on terrorism, transferring responsibility to a newly created Western Hemisphere Command and retaining two regionally focused brigades as it scales back a mission that once spanned the globe. As the Pentagon moves away from conflicts that shaped the post-9/11 era and toward preparing for large-scale conflict with near-peer competitors, an Army spokesperson has only confirmed that two Security Force Assistance Brigades, known as SFABs, will remain as the Army overhauls its command structure. The 1st SFAB, regionally aligned to U.S. Southern Command, will stay at Fort Benning, Georgia,…
The Pentagon on Monday issued a memo directing the U.S. military to evaluate the body fat of troops using a waist-to-height ratio, replacing traditional height-and-weight tables as the primary measure of physical standards. “The upper limit for allowable [waist-to-height-ratio] for Military Service body composition policies shall be less than 0.55,” the memo declared. The new body fat expectations range from 18% to 26% for men and 26% to 36% for women, according to the memo. Personnel who surpass these thresholds will be enrolled in the military’s remedial program, it stated, adding that failure to meet the standards “may result in…
The Pentagon’s Joint Interagency Task Force 401 will soon deploy counter-drone technology that uses nets to capture intruding unmanned aerial systems. The JIATF-401, tasked with coordinating counter-drone defense efforts across all military branches, announced on Sunday that it has awarded a contract for two advanced DroneHunter F700 systems, according to a release. Designed by Fortem Technologies, the DroneHunter 4700 is a lightweight system that uses AI and radar to identify, pursue and capture other drones using an array of expanding nets.It can easily capture and drag away small quadcopter drones using a tether net. It can also bring down much larger…
This article was originally published by Lance D. Johnson at Natural News under the title: Britain’s New “Mind-Reading” and Behavior-Predicting Surveillance System Turns Every Citizen Into a Suspect The British government, under the guise of public safety and crime prevention, is quietly constructing the most advanced surveillance architecture in the Western world, a system designed not just to see you, but to feed you lies, provoke you, and interpret your thoughts and predict your intentions. This move toward “inferential” surveillance—technology that claims to read stress, emotion, and intent from your face and body—marks a perilous leap from monitoring actions to…
The plane used by the U.S. military to strike a boat accused of smuggling drugs off the coast of Venezuela last fall was painted to look like a civilian aircraft, a move that appears to be at odds with the Pentagon’s manual on the laws of war.The plane, part of a secret U.S. fleet used in surveillance operations, also was carrying munitions in the fuselage, rather than beneath the aircraft, raising questions about the extent to which the operation was disguised in ways that run contrary to military protocol.Details of the plane’s appearance, first reported Monday by The New York…

Wildlife managers in Utah have begun culling mountain lions in six of the state’s game management units as part of a new study. The objective of the three-year study is to gauge the impacts these targeted removals may have on deer populations. They are trying to determine whether killing more mountain lions results in more mule deer. “We’ve seen predation as a potential limiting factor in many units,” Kent Hersey, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources big game projects coordinator told the…
A planned overhaul of the Veterans Health Administration will improve veterans care by creating a centralized system that better supports hospitals and clinics, which, in turn, will increase their focus on patients, Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins said Monday. The department released an overview in December of its plans to reduce the VHA’s administrative footprint — to include eliminating roughly 26,000 open positions — with an aim to streamline what the administration calls an “overburdensome and complex bureaucracy.” Under the plan, the VHA will reduce administrative duplication, increase accountability and oversight and improve focus on patients, according to officials. Some…

I collect and use everything from carving knives to axes to everyday carry blades. That also means I have a lot of edge maintenance to do, and I’m currently using a wide variety of sharpening systems to keep things sharp. I use a TSPROF K03 for most of my knives, a series of stones for kitchen…
Inflation has caused the standard of living to plummet in the United States. The population is being crushed by the cost of living, which is spurred by inflation. Housing costs have risen to absurd heights, property taxes have become absolutely insane and unaffordable in many areas of the country, while health insurance premiums have more than doubled for millions of Americans. Wages are not keeping up with these cost increases either, and more Americans are using credit cards and other debt just to get by month to month. The total cost of groceries has climbed 28.3% since January 2020, just…
A new study of female U.S. service members has found that contracting COVID-19 can increase the risk of developing high blood pressure or hemorrhage during pregnancy but getting a COVID-19 vaccine before or while expecting did not raise the risk of such complications. Researchers with the Defense Health Agency’s Armed Forces Health Surveillance Division examined nearly 40,000 deliveries by service women from 2021 to 2023 to determine how a COVID-19 infection or the coronavirus vaccine affected their pregnancies. Looking at the 5,190 women who contracted COVID-19 during pregnancy and 6,491 who had it before getting pregnant, as well as the…

After years of running a knife sharpening business, I know that too many people carry and use dull knives. But today, there’s no excuse for carrying or using a dull knife. The market is loaded with quality knife sharpeners that are easy to use, and produce excellent results. So, whether you have your grandfather’s…
