As summer winds down and the calendar inches toward September, two very different yet oddly similar American institutions begin to ramp up for their respective seasons. In the NFL, teams are grinding through training camp, evaluating rosters and trying to avoid devastating injuries. In the U.S. military, units are wrapping up summer rotations, prepping for fall exercises and hoping no one gets a DUI before Labor Day.The NFL preseason and military pre-deployment training might appear unrelated on the surface. But dig a little deeper, and you will find a shared set of challenges: questionable leadership decisions, hazing masked as tradition…

It has been edited lightly to fit modern standards.  Nearly 35 years ago the late P.C. (Perry) Hooker walked into our sporting-goods emporium in Memphis, Tennessee, and handed me eight unmarked boxes of 12 gauge shotgun shells with one hand and a surprisingly heavy leather gun case with the other.  Perry, who represented an ammunition company, said, “Buck, here are some hulls and a gun the big boss…

This article was originally published by Michael Snyder at The End of the American Dream.  Have you noticed that virtually all of our major cities are poorly run?  I believe that the condition of our largest metropolitan areas is a warning.  If we don’t straighten up, the entire country will soon resemble our core urban areas.  Thankfully, there are millions of Americans who strongly support a return to “law and order”, but unfortunately, “law and order” is the opposite of what we are witnessing in our biggest urban areas right now.  In this article, I would like to check in…

Czech President Petr Pavel has said that Ukraine must accept the territorial losses to Russia.  Pavel, a former NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Military Committee chair and longtime supporter of Ukraine, believes that Kiev should join the United States-led bloc, without the territory Russia has regained through the war. The Ukraine War Is A War That Should Never Have Happened; Who’s Keeping It Going And Why? Pavel made the remarks in a BBC interview on Monday, claiming that despite its Western backing, Kiev is “not in a position to liberate occupied territories in a short time frame without a significant cost…

Sign up for the Quick Strike Newsletter The hottest fishing news, tips, and tactics Arizona bass fisherman Steve Jenkins was fishing a local tournament on Roosevelt Lake over the weekend when he caught and released what should be the new state-record largemouth bass. The fish hardly fit in his livewell, and it weighed 16.57 pounds on certified scales, which floored everyone else at the tourney.  This included Jenkins, who’d severely underestimated the fish’s weight before bringing it to the weigh-in. And because he was more concerned with keeping the fish alive than certifying a record, he released the monster bass…

The Coast Guard convened its highest level of investigation in the aftermath, and the disaster has led to lawsuits and calls for…

The switch to a more focused job for Bradley crew members has already paid off with higher gunnery scores for at least one armored brigade combat team.Last year, the Army announced the creation of a 19C military occupational specialty, or MOS, for a dedicated Bradely crewmember. The infantry MOS 11B previously filled that role, but troops with that specialty also had to split their time with dismounted duties outside of the vehicle.RELATEDThe 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, out of Fort Hood, Texas, was one of the first armored brigade combat teams, or ABCTs, to undergo the change.…

The INF Treaty banning ground-launched missiles with ranges of 500–5,500km collapsed in 2019 when the US withdrew, citing Russian violations. Moscow has denied the claims, accusing the US itself of developing banned missiles. Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that the collapse of this treaty will eat away at the already fragile…
