I never used to be a knife guy, but at some point in my early 30s, I somehow started collecting whole gaggles of them. Although most of these are impulse buys or gifts, I’ve had the rare opportunity to see and test a few blades that really change the way…
Many of the most successful fighter pilots gained fame not only for their aerial tactics, but for their ability to pass their knowledge on to others. Ironically, some of those who handed down their tactical dictum to their men died because on one hubris-guided moment they disobeyed their own advice.…

HOUSTON — The brother of an Afghan refugee who helped U.S. forces defuse bombs during the war in Afghanistan expressed frustration Thursday that it took more than three months for the Texas man accused of fatally shooting his sibling over a parking dispute to be indicted in the case. When Abdul Rahman Waziri, 31, was shot while getting his mail at his Houston apartment complex on April 27, police knew who the alleged shooter was as the man had identified himself to officers at the scene, according to authorities. The pilots of a U.S. Army helicopter that collided with a passenger jet over Washington in January would’ve had difficulty spotting the plane while wearing night vision goggles, experts told the National Transportation Safety Board on Friday. The Army goggles would have made it difficult to see the plane’s colored lights, which might have helped the Black Hawk determine the plane’s direction. The goggles also limited the pilots’ peripheral vision as they flew near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The challenges posed by night-vision goggles were among the topics discussed at the NTSB’s third and final day of public testimony over the…
This article was originally published by Ulrich Fromy at The Mises Institute. In a recent speech in Portugal, Christine Lagarde—the president of the European Central Bank (ECB)—warned against the emergence of stablecoins, stating that they could lead to the creation of “new private currencies.” These stablecoins, which are tokens backed by fiat currencies, pose a significant risk to both the sovereignty of nations and the “common good” of currency. She therefore calls for them to be regulated at a global level. Throughout her statement, it becomes clear that the main risk of these digital assets is their popularity among populations…
In 1775, a year before there was a United States and six weeks after the Continental Army was formed, George Washington made a declaration that has shaped the military ever since.“We need chaplains,” he reportedly remarked, prompting action by the Continental Congress near the start of the Revolutionary War.The U.S. military chaplaincy marked 250 years on July 29 as the national military marked its own 250th anniversary in June. A week of celebrations includes a golf tournament at Fort Jackson in South Carolina, hosted by an organization raising funds for scholarships for family members of chaplains, and a sold-out ball…
Sign up for the On The Gun Newsletter The latest for gun hunters and competitive shooters. Over the years, my idea of the perfect deer rifle has evolved. When I was young, I had two whitetail rifles that, to me, were perfect. One was my Marlin 336 in .35 Remington, and the other was my first “fancy” rifle, a Ruger M77 in America’s caliber: .30/06. That M77, like me, was left-handed — which was how I shot until I learned I was right-eye dominant and switched. Both the .35 Remington and the .30/06 are venerable cartridges, and both remain wildly…
In a warning to Russia, President Donald Trump said Friday he’s ordering the repositioning of two U.S. nuclear submarines “based on the highly provocative statements” of the country’s former president Dmitry Medvedev.Trump posted on his social media site that based on the “highly provocative statements” from Medvedev he had “ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that.”The president added, “Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences, I hope this will not be one of those instances.”It wasn’t immediately clear what…

In contrast to a series of contested nomination votes this week, the military confirmations were done by a simple voice vote without objection. The moves fill several top Pentagon and military service slots ahead of the congressional summer break, allowing the leaders to step into their roles in the coming days. Adm. Daryl Caudle, who has been the commander of U.S. Fleet Forces Command…

A declassified document claims to be the missing link tying billionaire George Soros to the Russiagate hoax. George Soros’ Open Society Foundation was involved in the Hillary Clinton campaign’s 2016 efforts to falsely accuse Donald Trump of having ties to Russia, according to a newly declassified United States document. The 29-page annex to John Durham’s 2023 Special Counsel report was released by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday shortly after it was declassified, and boldly alleges that Soros was heavily involved in the “smear campaign.” The annex cites several “likely authentic” emails allegedly sent by Leonard Benardo, senior vice president…

A Chinese blockade could cut Taiwan’s electrical generating capacity so much that the island is unable to function, according to war games conducted by a U.S. think tank.“Energy is the weakest element in Taiwan’s resilience against coercion,” warned the report by the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies. “The overwhelming preponderance of energy must be imported and is thus vulnerable to a blockade.”China could supplement a blockade with attacks on Taiwan’s electrical grid, as Russia has done with some success in Ukraine.“Total electricity production might be reduced to 20 percent of pre-blockade electricity levels,” CSIS said. At that level,…
President Donald Trump is proposing an executive order to levy fines of up to $1.5 million per port call on Chinese-built ships arriving at US ports, effective in 2025. A majority of cargo ships globally in use were built in Chinese shipyards. The order’s origin started with the Biden administration. Trump’s US Trade Representative’s press release of March 21, 2025, provides the proposed Chinese ship levy background: Section 301(b) of the Trade Act of 1974, as amended (Trade Act), is designed to address unfair foreign practices affecting U.S. commerce. Section 301(b) may be used to respond to unreasonable or discriminatory foreign government acts,…
