But after retiring two years ago, the 58-year-old Mississippi resident started guiding anglers on inshore fishing trips from his one-of-a-kind, 18-foot Carolina Skiff. The specially modified boat is wide and stable, and it’s part of the inspiration for his newest venture: offering charter trips for disabled anglers. “I named that boat ‘Jason’s Joy’ after my 20-year-old son, who has cerebral palsy,” Sanders tells Outdoor Life. Sanders says that he and his wife Adrian had…

The Nevada County Fair begins today, but one special event has been cancelled this year. H5N1, or the HPAI (highly pathogenic avian influenza) bird flu, has been blamed for the cancellation of dairy and poultry shows. “The [U.S. Department of Agriculture], [California Department of Food and Agriculture] put out a ban on all poultry shows, meaning we can’t have our show at the fairgrounds,” said Katie Bielen, deputy manager for the Nevada County Fairgrounds, according to a report by CBS News.  The CDFA put out a statement earlier this year that said, in part, “due to the continued spread of…

United States President Donald Trump has suggested that Vice President JD Vance is “most likely” the favorite to become his successor and the 2028 Republican presidential nominee. While he admitted it’s too soon to decide for certain, it appears that Vance will be the chosen one. During a White House event on Tuesday, Trump was asked about recent remarks from Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who told Fox News that Vance “would be a great nominee if he decides he wants to do that”. “I think most likely — in all fairness, he’s the Vice President,” Trump said when asked…

Editor’s note: This is a developing story.Five soldiers were shot on Fort Stewart in Georgia on Wednesday, Army officials confirmed. The shooter — who was not identified — was taken into custody about 30 minutes after the incident, according to details posted by Fort Stewart leadership on social media. The attack occurred just before 11 a.m., and prompted a full lockdown of the base. “Five soldiers were shot today in an active shooter incident in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area,” the official statement said. “All soldiers were treated on-site and moved to Winn Army Community Hospital for further…

Modern waterfowl migrations (and the weather that drives them) are unpredictable, there’s tough competition on many public marshes, and private ground is often locked up by locals or outfitters.  I’ve been lucky to hunt ducks and geese across much of the country, plus I’ve had the opportunity to interview traveling waterfowl hunters who have way more experience than I do. I’ve learned two key points from those experiences: there’s still…

Two memos recently shared on social media show that the Army’s 197th Infantry Brigade commander briefly banned “bay tossing” by drill sergeants before rescinding the order a short time later.Bay tossing — a practice in which drill sergeants trash the trainees’ area by overturning mattresses, emptying foot lockers and garbage cans and then force trainees to clean up — is often used as a memorable way to teach trainees how to do something correctly.A July 31 memo from Col. Christopher J.C. Hallows, 197th Infantry Brigade commander, “strictly prohibited” the practice of bay tossing. The 197th Infantry Brigade trains infantry soldiers…

While trying to do that a lot of us fall into the trap of focusing on the wrong things. We obsess over buying a new bow or sight. Or make sure we have the best arrows possible. It wasn’t all that long ago that ruler Donald Trump reinstated military aid to Ukraine. Now he’s vowing to withdraw the United States from the Ukrainian “mess.” Trump Mulls ANOTHER NEW Aid Package For Ukraine The current ruler has said that this war is not his, but belongs to his predecessor, Joe Biden. When asked by journalists on Tuesday why the U.S. should keep funding Ukraine as Kiev grows increasingly more coercive in its draft campaign, Trump responded: “This is Biden’s war. This is not my war. I’m here to get us out of it. It’s a mess, and I’m…

The news came just one day after the National Park Service unveiled plans to rebuild a statue commemorating Albert Pike, a Confederate brigadier general, just a few blocks from the U.S. Capitol. The Arlington National Cemetery sculpture — made by Moses Ezekiel, a Confederate veteran — was first installed at the site in 1914 after a campaign by the United Daughters of the Confederacy to promote positive aspects of the separatist movement. The monument was often referred to as “the Confederate memorial” and featured a bronze woman standing on a 32-foot pedestal. Below her, details featured the coat of arms…
