KelTec has never been shy about pushing boundaries in firearm design, and their KS7 bullpup shotgun quickly earned a reputation for being one of the lightest and most compact 12-gauge shotguns on the market.

Now, the Florida-based manufacturer has unveiled the KS7 GEN2, a refined iteration of the platform that brings meaningful upgrades without compromising the simplicity that made the original so popular.

Compact Power, Refined

At just 6.8 pounds unloaded and 26.1 inches long, the KS7 GEN2 retains its bullpup DNA — short, maneuverable, and well-suited for tight quarters, such as hallways, vehicles, or around the house.

It still delivers a full 6+1 capacity with 3-inch shells (or 7+1 with standard 2.75-inch), making it a serious option for home defense.

What’s New in GEN2

KelTec’s latest evolution of the KS7 isn’t a ground-up redesign, but a practical refinement that addresses user feedback:

  • Integrated 5-slot Picatinny rail on the underside for vertical grips, lights, or other accessories.
  • Flush-fit cap to maintain a streamlined profile when the rail isn’t in use.
  • Smoother pump action for faster cycling and improved handling.
  • Enhanced durability to stand up to heavy use at the range or in defense scenarios.

These changes make the shotgun more versatile and customizable while keeping the no-nonsense simplicity that KS7 fans appreciate.

Built for Defense and Beyond

Like its predecessor, the KS7 GEN2 ejects downward, making it inherently ambidextrous and less prone to kicking hulls into walls or teammates. Its compact bullpup design makes it easy to handle in close quarters, while its lightweight build helps reduce fatigue during longer training sessions.

While KelTec markets the KS7 GEN2 as a home-defense tool, its compact firepower and accessory options also make it a practical choice for range work or as a truck gun.

  • Gauge: 12ga, 3” chamber
  • Capacity: 6+1 (3”), 7+1 (2.75”)
  • Barrel length: 18.5”
  • Overall length: 26.1”
  • Weight: 6.8 lbs (unloaded)
  • MSRP: $639

Final Thoughts

KelTec says they’re “driven by the pursuit of practical innovation,” and the KS7 GEN2 backs that up. By tightening up the pump action, adding an accessory rail, and increasing durability — all while keeping the bullpup’s trademark light weight — they’ve managed to evolve the KS7 into a more capable, flexible shotgun without overcomplicating it.
